The Rankin Bass “The Hobbit” animated film is a much beloved classic, loved by fans all over the world, based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. This film has many characters we all love and not least the Goblins!

The Goblins are memorable characters that had a huge impact on fans of the film and now, we have taken the Goblin out of the known animated style and brought him into a realistic artistic approach. Originally commissioned by Middle-Earth Enterprises, our goal was to create the Goblin as if he was made of flesh and blood and yet keep his physical form as seen in the animated film. The entire design was built around the premise of the song in the film, “Down, Down to Goblin Town… you go my lad, Ho-Ho, my Lad!”. A bit of a trick, but with years of experience and a handy set of paint brushes and an Iwata airbrush, the result was accomplished!

This artwork was recently used to celebrate the opening of the Prancing Pony booth by Middle-earth Enterprises at the San Diego ComicCon 2025! 12 x 16 inch lithograph prints were available at the booth during the show, but now nearly all are depleted!

Now, this same artwork is available in a much larger, 18 x 24 inch Paper Giclee print! Paper Giclees feature a full color gamut for each print, archival inks and utilizes a 12-color process that is superior to the standard 4-color lithograph process.
