According to the decree made by Arwen’s father Elrond, this must take place in order for their union to come to fruition.

The portraits of Aragorn and Arwen show the expressions of their knowledge that the road will be long, but their love will guide them as they long to unite Middle Earth under the leadership of the long-awaited for King. Symbolizing this hope, is the banner Arwen wove for Aragorn as he went into battle, displaying “Seven Stars and Seven Stones and One White Tree”.
